Arusha National Park

A hidden little gem on the foothills of volcanic Mount Meru near Arusha, northern Tanzania’s safari capital, is a perfect way to begin or end your unforgettable safari adventure experience.
It contains species that the visitor will not see elsewhere in northern Tanzania, its environment is unique and it is on your doorstep. The park has an area of 552 square kilometers, lies 40 kilometers northwest of Arusha. It is 45 minutes to 1 hour drive from Arusha.

The park is part of a large regional ecosystem of Mount Meru, Kilimanjaro and Amboseli along the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley, contains volcanic Momella Lakes, Ngurdoto crater and Mount Meru, the fourth highest peak in Africa. At 4,565 meters (15,064 feet), Mount Meru towers over the nearby Arusha town, and is topped in Africa only by Mounts Kilimanjaro, Kenya and Rwenzori, all in East Africa. Much of this 137 sq. km park combines an audible forest experience with a visual one where birdcalls and black & white collobus monkeys crashing through the trees and hear the calls of the wild.

Bellow the breathtaking cliff face of Meru’s peaks, the slopes are covered by montane forests, acacia woodland and open plains are inhabited by hundreds of giraffe, buffalo, warthog, zebras, dik-dik, leopards, spotted hyenas. Momella lakes tinged with their prolific birdlife that inhabits the shallow freshwater and saline lakes. The slower you go, the more you obtain the best view of both animals and scenery.
